When I was first asked to join the coming Malacca retreat, I agreed on the spot. Not knowing what is coming or what it is all about, bearing no idea at all and I was indeed not close with the rest of the team. Then, when I told my friends about me going for the retreat (some are even Catholics) I was told that they've never attended any Church camp. Some even commented negatively that it is going to be a superb boring session, giving me all the bad impression. I was scared and regretted for signing up after being told so.

However, upon attending the session, I would say the experiences throughout these 2 days retreat was totally different from what I expected and told.

From their website:-

"Founded in Italy on 15 June 1914 by Fr James Alberione and Mother Thecla Merlo for evangelization through the communication media. Pioneers Srs Elizabeth Capello, Eulalia Bravo, Assunta Labay and Virginia Maria Guevarro arrived in Jesselton on 21 Jan 1961 at the invitation of Bishop James Buis. Due to government immigration policies, they had to close down the house in 1971 and the house was sold to the vicariate. On 25 Jan 1989 they returned to Kota Kinabalu with Srs Rosalie Lojiu, Anna Yap and Sylvia George as the pioneers. FSP stands for "Figlie di San Paolo", which means "Daughters of St. Paul" in Latin.

The Association of Pauline Cooperator is Third Order of the Pauline Family. In Sabah the formation of the Pauline Cooperator began in 1992. A few months of formation talk were given by Sr.Rosalie Lojiu and Fr.Thomas Makajil. Fourteen members were inducted a Seminar at the Kipouvo Retreat Centre in May 1992 by a Pauline Priest, Fr.Dominador De Gusman from Manila. The Members are mostly from Limbanak, Inobong and some from Kolopis".

Sister_act Mention the Carmelite Sisters and the first thing that conjures up in my mind is Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act. (Okay, I could have mentioned The Sound of Music because that was really the first time I ever saw a Carmelite nun in their distinctive habit but that would make me sound like I'm reeeeal old!). Oh…and also the nuns in Sister Act singing “I will follow Him…”…

(And before someone tells me that the habits in the Sister Act movie is really not a Carmelite nun's habit and should be a Dominican or Franciscan, let me admit that this is totally out of my league!)

Anyway, I digressed. Actually, an email came from the Carmelite Sisters of Seremban and I have posted it here word for word:

Outreach2007.jpgSunday, 20 May 2007 After weeks of preparation and many telephone calls, the day had finally come for RCIA 16 to visit the Infant Jesus Convent & Orphanage. Set within the serene surroundings of the Convent Bukit Nanas Girls' School and its beautifully landscaped compound, the orphanage is surprisingly well kept and very clean. Many of the newly baptised arrived as early as 2.00pm for our 3.00pm date with the residents. Perhaps that was the first and clearest indicator of their sincere enthusiasm for this project. They were really looking forward to spending a couple of hours with the residents there.
